YKS exam questions are the best study material you can find, and the official ones are free. Every year, ÖSYM publishes the question booklets of the exam, so students can see exactly how TYT and AYT questions look. Used well, past papers and practice exams turn knowledge into points. This guide shows where to find them and how to practise in a way that really raises your nets.

Where to find official YKS exam questions

The most reliable source is ÖSYM itself. After each exam, ÖSYM publishes the question booklets for every session. For example, you can download the 2026 TYT booklet and the 2026 AYT booklet directly from ÖSYM’s document server. The questions are in Turkish, exactly as students saw them in the exam hall.

In addition, MEB, the Turkish Ministry of Education, runs free monthly TYT, AYT and YDT trial exams on its MEBİ platform. According to MEB, millions of high school students already use it. These exams are in Turkish only, but they are a good free extra.

Why real questions matter so much

Practice books are useful, but real YKS exam questions show three things that books often miss. First, the exact length and style of Turkish sentences. Second, the balance of topics ÖSYM really asks about. Third, the level of difficulty in each test. For Arab students, the language point is especially important, because real questions train the reading speed the exam demands.

How to simulate the real exam

A practice exam is only useful if it feels like the real one. So follow the real conditions:

  1. Start at 10:15, like the real sessions, so your brain gets used to that time.
  2. Use the real time limits: 165 minutes for TYT and 180 minutes for AYT.
  3. Use an answer sheet, and fill it in as you go.
  4. Put your phone in another room and work without breaks.

Then check your answers and calculate your nets: correct answers minus a quarter of wrong answers. Our guide to YKS score calculation explains the next steps.

How to review: the mistake log

The review is where your score grows. For every wrong or blank question, write one line in a mistake log and give it one of four labels:

  • Knowledge: you did not know the topic.
  • Turkish: you misread the question or a key word.
  • Careless: you knew it but made a small error.
  • Time: you ran out of time before reaching it.

After three or four practice exams, the labels show a clear pattern. For example, if most mistakes are “Turkish”, you need more reading practice, not more maths. If most are “time”, you need faster first passes and smarter skipping. Our guide to Turkish for YKS helps with the language side.

How often to practise

In the autumn, one full practice exam a month is enough, because you are still building the base. From March, move to one full exam a week, alternating TYT and AYT. In the last month, keep one or two exams a week, but spend more time on review than on new questions. Read our YKS study plan for the full calendar.

Common mistakes with YKS exam questions

  • Doing old questions without a timer.
  • Checking the answers but never writing down why you were wrong.
  • Saving all past papers for the last month.
  • Comparing your nets with friends instead of with your own last exam.
