YKS Exam Results: When They Come Out, How to Read Them and What Next

From results day to registration: when YKS results come out, what each number on the result page means and what to do in the weeks after.

YKS exam results arrive about a month after the exam, and they decide the next big step: university preferences. On results day, many students look only at one number and miss the details that matter for their choices. This guide explains when the results come out, what your result page shows and what to do in the weeks after, using the 2026 calendar as an example.

When are YKS exam results announced?

In 2026, the exam took place on 20 and 21 June, and ÖSYM announced the results on 21 July 2026, early in the morning. Based on the last years, you can expect a similar gap in 2027: about one month after the June exam. ÖSYM will publish the exact date in its yearly calendar, which usually appears in November. Follow the ÖSYM website for the official date.

You view your results online with your candidate ID and password on ÖSYM’s system. Therefore, make sure you can log in long before results day, especially if you applied with a foreign ID number.

What your result page shows

Your result document has several parts, and each one has a job:

  • Nets per test: your correct answers minus a quarter of your wrong answers, for every test you took.
  • Scores by type: your TYT score and, if you took AYT or YDT, your SAY, EA, SÖZ and DİL scores.
  • Placement scores: the same scores with the bonus from your diploma grade (OBP) added.
  • Rankings: your position among all candidates for each score type (başarı sırası).

Why questions are sometimes cancelled

After the exam, ÖSYM reviews objections and sometimes cancels questions. In 2026, for example, ÖSYM cancelled one AYT maths question after a court decision and one question in the literature and social sciences test. When a question is cancelled, ÖSYM recalculates the results under its rules. So if you hear about cancellations, do not panic: the final results already include them.

What to do in the week after the results

  1. Write down your rankings for each score type you have.
  2. Check last year’s base rankings on YÖK Atlas for the programs you like.
  3. Sort programs into ambitious, realistic and safe choices.
  4. Check the details: teaching language, city, fees and scholarship level.
  5. Prepare your list before the preference window opens.

If the result is not what you hoped

First, read the whole result, not only the total. A student who missed a target in SAY may still have a strong EA or TYT ranking that opens good programs. Second, look at the additional placement in September for remaining places. Third, if you plan to take YKS again, remember one rule: if you are placed in a program this year, your OBP bonus is halved next year, even if you do not register. Choose carefully before you submit your preferences.
